JANE WALTON
Sometimes its the imperfections,
that provide the beauty
Personal Introduction
I started in my trade in 1999.
I consider myself a Decorative Antiques Dealer as I think this best describes what I do and what I sell. Very quickly I realised that my forte and passion lay with garden ornament, both antique and the more contemporary, and I still specialise in this field today. However, I never could walk past an uusual piece of furniture or decorative item and so now I deal as much in 18-21C objects as anything else.
After 3 years at the Showroom in Petworth, which I enjoyed enormously, I am moving to a new shop in Lombard Street, Petworth and also have storage just a mile outside of the town as well. I opened the new shop on 4 July 2009 and aim to open frm Wednesday to Saturday 10.30am to 5.30pm as much as possible on these days and any other where possible. As usual, private appointments are always welcome and accommodated.
In 2009 I also started, along with my friend and now business partner Jill Perry of Norfolk Decorative Antiques, a new website based business called the
Decorative Collective which now showcases over 50 Antique, 20C and 21C dealers and their stock. From it's very simple beginnings, it has grown into the burgeoning website that you see today. Please view this at www.decorativecollective.com

Search Service
If you cannot find an item or object you are looking for here, then it may be that we have it in stock, but have not yet placed it on the website and so please contact us with your enquiry. We also run an Antiques Finders Service for which we charge only a small percentage of the final purchase price, which we negotiate on your behalf. This works by your providing us with a clear idea of what it is you are seeking and we search our extensive database of dealers (both home and abroad) and other sources to locate the item for you. We then send you pictures, dimensions and a condition report, from which you can make your choice at your leisure.
Shipping:
Shipping can be arranged and quotes obtained, for any size and number of items to anywhere in the world.
Currencies:
We show both US and Euro currency equivalents next to our UK prices.
Bespoke and Upholstery:
Using a skilled team of craftsmen that Jane has built up relationships with over the years, we are able to offer certain bespoke furniture services and also bespoke iron work and repairs. Please contact Jane to discuss these requirements more fully. We can also arrange for some items to be upholstered, and although do not charge any additional sums on top of the costs of the upholsterer, we do have to charge for a delivery and collection service and again, you should contact Jane to discuss individual requirements.
What we Sell:
Here at Jane Walton we offer items for both the interior and exterior of the Home, from furniture to garden items and even architectural objects that can be included into a scheme or project you are planning. You will sometimes also find unusual and unique architectural items that can be used directly as their use intended, or have been converted to suit today more contemporary interiors, such as clock faces converted to wall art and made to work again, an iron railing or balcony made into a bespoke console table, an old iron window or gilles converted into mirrors and beautiful old bronze and iron pieces made into lamps for those one-off finishing touches to a room. All expertly crafted by a handful of skilled specialists that Jane is lucky to work with.
Jane does not rely on runners or dealers bringing items to her for her to choose, she travels all across the UK and into the whole of France, including Paris and the South to personally select everything she sells. She buys from Sweden, Italy and the US, but never ignores our own home grown antiques and many decorative items. Jane believes that some of the best garden items, especially the terracotta ones, are English and that the best stone for statuary has always been our own Portland Stone as it is hardy, weathers beautifully and allows the carver such scope to portray their skills and visions. She is proud that the 18C English, Coade Stone is one of the most collectible and desireable materials where garden ornament is concerned, along with the 19C reconstituted stone maker Austin and Seeley. Jane loves iron and bronze work, in particular the work of the 19C English Bromsgrove Guild and of course Coalbrookdale. In the 20C the wonderful English Compton Pottery, who taught unskilled women and men to craft some of the most beautifully designed and made garden pots, statuary, benches and other items are also amongst some of the most collectible and desireable garden ornament today. Jane cannot and does not ignore some of the great European makers such as the French companies as Val D'Osne, Barbazeat and Cie and the American companies of Fiske and JL Mott. Jane is also a huge fan of the Swedish company
Nafvekvarn who employed several important architects of the day to design garden ornament and furniture for them.
